Getting Started

LCME Survey Visit Preparation
Each year, the LCME hosts a number of optional survey preparation sessions for deans and survey coordinators. For more information on these sessions, please visit the LCME Workshops webpage.

In addition, the LCME Secretariat is available to provide assistance throughout the survey visit preparation process.

Schedule Overview
The survey visit will begin on Sunday afternoon with a meeting between the dean and the survey team and will typically end on Wednesday afternoon following exit conferences with the dean and the university chief executive. Survey visits to schools with regional or branch campuses typically end on Thursday afternoon because the team will need an extra day for site visits.

The specifics of the schedule will be developed by the team secretary in consultation with the Faculty Accreditation Lead in the months leading up to the visit. An example of a typical schedule can be found on page 9 of Guidelines for the Conduct of Accreditation Survey Visits.

Designate Faculty Accreditation Lead and Staff Visit Coordinator
The school will need to designate a Faculty Accreditation Lead and Staff Visit Coordinator to lead the team through the survey visit process.

The Faculty Accreditation Lead is typically a faculty member or senior administrator with extensive knowledge of the school and its programs. This individual manages the self-study process, coordinates the collection of data for the Medical Education Database, and develops the survey visit schedule with the team secretary.

The Staff Visit Coordinator is typically an experienced staff member who manages the logistics of the survey visit, including on-site meeting facilities, hotel reservations and ground transportation for the team. The Staff Visit Coordinator also often manages the production and mailing of the completed Medical Education Database.
